Dear Parents or Guardians,

A new requirement of Driver’s Education for Students who receive a Learners Permit dated September 1, 2007 or after, will be a two hour class for Parents or Guardians.

The intention of this class is to educate you about the content of the driver education curriculum, the junior operator’s law and the driving skills and behaviors that your children will be learning.  You should also know what skills your son or daughter must master to pass a road test.  It is also important for you to be aware of your own driving behaviors and be a role model so you may teach your son or daughter to be safe and skilled drivers.

In addition to the required driving hours with a driving school, your son or daughter must complete at least an additional 40 hours of supervised, behind-the-wheel driving with you, as shown by a certified statement signed by you as parent or guardian.  (The RMV will accept 30 hours at home if the student has completed a driver skills development program)

Go to the Registry of Motor Vehicles website at www.mass.gov/rmv/jol/index.htm to print out a Supervised Driving Log to use every time you drive with your son or daughter.

If you have more than one child, this class will only have to be completed once every five years.  Tri-Town Driver Education will issue you a CERTIFICATE OF PARENTAL CURRICULUM COMPLETION, for your records, and we will keep a copy for our files.

The dates of the two hour class will be given to you on the first day of your son or daughters’ driver education class.  We will offer evening and Saturday options for your busy schedule.  You may not attend one of these classes until after your son or daughter has completed the 30 hour classroom segment.

For any special concerns you may have about this class or your son or daughter taking our class, please feel free to call.
